New City of London destination brand and website launched to boost Square Mile leisure economy
A new and significant destination brand and website, thecityofldn.com, is being launched today in the City of London, representing a remarkable opportunity to start a fresh chapter in the city’s history.
This platform will showcase the finest offerings the City has for visitors from London, the UK, and around the world. It will highlight the city’s world-renowned culture, heritage, attractions, experiences, hotels, pubs, bars, and restaurants.
During an event attended by influential figures from politics, media, travel, tourism, and the City’s business sector, Chris Hayward, Policy Chairman of the City of London Corporation, stated that this new consumer brand and marketing channels will share the story of the City, complementing the promotional efforts of partners and supporting local businesses.
This marks a crucial moment for the City Corporation’s flagship program, Destination City, which envisions the Square Mile as a leading leisure destination for visitors, workers, and residents from the UK and worldwide.
Mr. Hayward emphasized that the new brand and website will play a vital role in establishing the City of London as a vibrant destination that operates seven days a week, driving the city’s recovery, attracting visitors, stimulating spending, and ensuring future economic vitality.
He expressed, “By amplifying the City’s voice, by highlighting opportunities for like-minded brands, organizations, and investors to participate, and by collaborating together, we can redefine the Square Mile as a preferred destination for years to come.”
Mr. Hayward also mentioned that since assuming leadership of the City Corporation a year ago, his primary focus has been on recovering from the pandemic.
He revealed that the total number of jobs in the City has reached a record high of over 587,000 in 2021, with Tube journeys in the City now at around 80% of 2019 levels throughout the week, and weekend activities surpassing pre-pandemic levels.
In 2022, City attractions welcomed 4.9 million visitors, including the Barbican performing arts centre, the largest of its kind in Europe.
London’s highest garden, the iconic Sky Garden, has reached 10 million visitors this year. Additionally, the Elizabeth Line has brought an extra 1.5 million people within a 45-minute commute of the City.
The Migration Museum has chosen the City as its permanent home, exploring how the movement of people to and from the City has shaped our identity today.
Furthermore, the Museum of London has embarked on an extraordinary journey with Londoners to create a world-class museum in the heart of West Smithfield, scheduled to open in 2026.
