Hundreds of stolen phones found by police in Brockley raid
In a recent police operation in Brockley, a substantial number of stolen mobile phones were successfully retrieved. Law enforcement officers, who had been investigating a series of robberies and thefts in Lewisham, Greenwich, and Southwark, utilized covert surveillance to pinpoint the location of the property. On Wednesday (January 3), they executed a raid.
During the operation, officers discovered numerous bags containing hundreds of phones, with many of them wrapped in foil bricks. Additionally, they apprehended five individuals, ranging in age from 20 to 50, on suspicion of handling stolen property. Some of these phones have been linked to recent thefts within the city.
The seized phones have diverse origins, including China, Hong Kong, and Algeria, leading police to believe that they might have belonged to international students or tourists. Detective Constable Callen Fahey, part of the South East Command Unit, emphasized the significance of these arrests in disrupting mobile phone theft and robbery in south London, enhancing community safety. This decisive action sends a clear message that criminal behavior of this nature, which can severely impact victims, will not be tolerated, and those responsible will face consequences.
The Metropolitan Police have encouraged the public to keep a record of their phone’s IMEI number, a unique 15-digit identifier that can be obtained by dialing *#06# on the device. It is important to note that this information should not be stored on the phone itself, as it defeats the purpose. Additionally, officers have advised individuals to install tracking apps on their phones for added security.
