55 Bishopsgate project gets green light from City of London Corporation
In a recent update from the City of London Corporation Planning Applications Sub-Committee, the innovative 55 Bishopsgate scheme has been granted planning permission as of 21 July.
Key features of the 55 Bishopsgate development:
- This project features a set of mixed-use buildings, standing tall at 63 storeys and 22 storeys respectively.
- One of the attractions includes a complimentary public rooftop designed with a biodiverse garden promoting climate resilience. This space offers relaxation, hosts events, and provides educational resources.
- Visitors can also experience an external platform at the pinnacle, presenting panoramic views of London.
- The structures aim to boost the City Cluster on London’s horizon with a whopping 103,000 sqm of essential office real estate. This space caters to 14% of the expected office demand in the Square Mile by 2036, encompassing both co-working and budget-friendly workspaces.
- At the base level, the development promises an expansive 2,545 sqm public domain connected seamlessly with the broader Bishopsgate vicinity. This area remains open around the clock and is devised to be an inviting hub featuring events, digital exhibitions, art showcases, and strategic landscaping.
- Floors two and three anticipate public cultural arenas, inclusive of an auditorium and discussion zones. Developed collaboratively with New London Architecture, this will inaugurate a brand-new establishment for the London Centre.
- Towering at 284 meters, the 55 Bishopsgate is poised to be the third loftiest edifice in the Square Mile, only surpassed by the 1 Undershaft project (305m) and 22 Bishopsgate (295m).
- With the City Corporation’s Climate Action Strategy in focus, the building boasts urban greening elements and sophisticated renewable energy solutions. Also, to promote sustainable transit, there will be provisions for 1,400 extended stay cycle stations and over 120 brief stay vehicle parking.
Shravan Joshi, Chairman of the City of London Corporation Planning and Transport Committee, voiced his contentment, “The 55 Bishopsgate project embodies the standard of excellence we aim for. Its public viewing gallery and platform serve as a versatile amenity, aligning with our Destination City ambition to reshape the Square Mile into a full-week visitor hotspot. Such endeavours fortify the City’s global reputation as a paramount financial and business hub. The site is crucial for the City’s expansion blueprint and will play a pivotal role in fulfilling future workspace requirements.”
