Temporary Commissioner appointed at City of London Police
An Interim Commissioner has been designated at the City of London Police due to the current Commissioner’s medical leave.
Angela McLaren, the standing Commissioner for the City of London Police, is on a hiatus for medical treatment related to a musculoskeletal issue.
In her absence, Assistant Commissioner Pete O’Doherty has taken on the role of Interim Commissioner to ensure the continuity of police leadership.
James Thomson, who heads the City of London Corporation’s Police Authority Board, expressed his endorsement:
“Pete O’Doherty, in his capacity as Assistant Commissioner, possesses the necessary expertise to fill the Commissioner’s shoes and has my complete confidence.
“His leadership is integral to maintaining the robust command necessary for the City Police to uphold its responsibilities in both local and national policing spheres.
“We are hopeful for Angela’s quick convalescence and anticipate her imminent return to duty in the City.”
Pete O’Doherty became a member of the force as Assistant Commissioner in January 2022.
His policing journey began within the City of London, followed by a tenure as Assistant Chief Constable with Thames Valley Police, during which he spearheaded Counter Terrorism initiatives and operations against Serious and Organised Crime in the Southeast Region.
Upon assuming his temporary role, Pete O’Doherty remarked:
“We, the team at the City of London Police, are eager for the Commissioner’s recovery and subsequent return.
“In the interim, I am privileged to accept the responsibilities as Interim Commissioner, ensuring our commitment to law enforcement persists uninterrupted, both within the City of London and in our national role leading fraud investigations.”
