Recognition of distinguished Indian banking leaders with Freedom awards in the City of London
On December 13, the City of London Corporation paid tribute to eight senior executives from Indian banks located within the City. This recognition was part of the festivities commemorating India’s 75 years of independence and serves as an acknowledgment of the substantial trade ties between the financial sectors of the UK and India.
The individuals bestowed with the Freedom of the City on this day include: Madhur Kumar of Bank of Baroda, Manish Gupta of Bank of India, Ashok Kumar Vartia of Export-Import Bank of India, Sharukh T Wadia of IndusInd Bank, Rakesh Kumar of India Infrastructure Finance Company, Loknath Mishra of ICICI Bank, Sudhir Kumar Sharma of State Bank of India, and Arbind Kumar Choudhary of Union Bank of India.
Michael Mainelli, the Lord Mayor of the City of London, expressed his honor in nominating these Indian bankers in the City, emphasizing that both British and Indian investments play a pivotal role in supporting millions of jobs in both nations. He also expressed gratitude for the invaluable contributions of Indian bankers to the financial landscape of the Square Mile.
Chris Hayward, the Policy Chairman of the City of London Corporation, expressed his delight in seeing prominent Indian bankers receiving the Freedom of the City at Guildhall. He highlighted India’s enduring importance as a significant market for the City Corporation and looked forward to further collaborative ventures between the two countries.
Rehana Ameer, Chair of the Freedom Applications Policy & Resources Sub-Committee, voiced her delight in nominating these Indian bankers for the esteemed Freedom of the City of London award. She emphasized their exceptional leadership and their substantial contributions to the Financial Services industry in both the UK and India. Ameer also noted the occasion as a symbol of a shared commitment to exploring new opportunities, fostering innovation, and strengthening the financial cooperation and ties between the City and India for mutual prosperity.
