The Corporation of the City of London has entrusted Thames Reach with the management of its new Homelessness Assessment Center for a term of three years.
The residential service situated in the financial district will have 14 beds for short-term stays available to the homeless when it commences operations in early 2024.
Thames Reach is a charitable entity in London dedicated to aiding those who are homeless or at risk by helping them secure housing, form supportive connections, and live rewarding lives.
Under this contract, Thames Reach will offer continuous support every day of the year to a varied clientele, many of whom have complex needs.
In partnership with health and social care services, Thames Reach will concentrate on devising the most effective ways for clients to transition away from homelessness.
The assessment facility is located in a former schoolhouse within the precincts of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre at Snow Hill Court.
The building is undergoing a comprehensive renovation tailored to the requirements of the homeless.
Ruby Sayed, Chairman of the City of London Corporation’s Community and Children’s Services Committee, stated:
“Working together with Thames Reach, we strive to lessen chronic homelessness and ensure that those who find themselves on the streets spend no more than one night outside.
“We are determined to prevent homelessness and, in instances where it does occur, we endeavor to ensure it is an uncommon, short-lived, and non-recurring incident.
“We are fully dedicated to tackling the underlying causes of homelessness, an issue that continues to pose a significant challenge throughout London.”
Bill Tidnam, Chief Executive Officer of Thames Reach, expressed:
“This center will play a pivotal role in addressing the issue of individuals sleeping rough in the City.
“With an immediate accommodation solution now at the disposal of our City outreach team for those sleeping on the streets, we can more effectively understand their needs and pinpoint the optimal long-term solution for them to permanently leave behind homelessness.”
