The North London street where residents are ‘too afraid to walk home’ due to drunk men catcalling them
Residents in a neighbourhood in North London are expressing their fears about walking home at night, citing incidents of harassment and threatening behavior, often involving alcohol. A woman recounted a frightening experience where she was menaced with a bottle for refusing to give her phone number to an inebriated man.
Willesden High Road, located in one of the Cumulative Impact Zones (CIZ) in Brent, was targeted for these zones to address the borough’s serious issues stemming from alcohol and public drinking.
Despite these efforts, the situation seems to be persisting, as several locals report feeling unsafe due to the prevalent street drinking. One resident described the area as increasingly inhospitable, plagued by harassment and intimidation.
She detailed her experiences: “The area is overrun with men who harass and endanger me. I’ve faced multiple threats, including an incident where a drunk man threatened me with a bottle because I wouldn’t give him my number. Nighttime walks home are always filled with fear.”
Others have mentioned that some families are now reluctant to let their children play outside due to safety concerns, and some have relatives who are afraid to visit due to the reputation the road has gained for loudness and alcohol-related issues, adversely affecting the neighborhood.
