The City of London Corporation has greenlit a significant redevelopment project at 65 Gresham Street
This project will enhance the public area and add new retail stores, in addition to providing a boost in eco-friendly office space.
The mixed-use development plan involves maintaining about 70% of the current building structure, offering benefits to office workers, local residents, and visitors. Key features include multiple landscaped terraces, improved access and mobility around the site, and new retail spaces on Aldermanbury, aimed at creating a lively and diverse environment for all.
This approval marks another success for the City Corporation’s planning team, which has seen a steady increase in planning applications since 2020, especially in 2023.
With pedestrian traffic in the Square Mile nearing pre-COVID levels, the new retail spaces and landscaping around 65 Gresham Street, conveniently located near Liverpool Street station – the UK’s busiest station – will be easily accessible.
Shravan Joshi, Chairman of the City of London Corporation’s Planning and Transport Committee, commented on the project, highlighting its exemplary nature in retrofitting. The scheme promises a well-connected, superior office space for future tenants and their employees, while also enhancing the experience of local residents and visitors through public and retail space improvements. Joshi emphasized the City’s dynamic nature, openness to new constructions, and commitment to supporting low-carbon alternatives and guiding developers to prioritize carbon considerations in their planning applications.
