The City of London Corporation invites individuals to contribute their insights to shape its forthcoming priorities over the next half-decade, as the institution crafts its Corporate Plan for 2024-2029.
The survey remains accessible online until the 16th of October, offering a digital channel for participation. For those preferring traditional methods, paper forms are available at Guildhall in the heart of the Square Mile, as well as other sites owned by the City Corporation.
At the helm of the Square Mile, the City Corporation functions as the governing entity with a dedicated mission to foster a vibrant and prosperous urban center. Its commitment extends to championing a sustainable and diverse London while bolstering the UK’s global achievements.
With a distinctive role as both the local authority for the City of London and an advocate for the nation’s financial and professional services sector, the City Corporation engages in international visits to pivotal global markets through its Lord Mayor, based at the esteemed Mansion House, along with its Policy Chairman.
Central to its aspirations, the Destination City initiative envisions transforming the Square Mile into a premier leisure destination. Remarkably, the organization ranks as the fourth-largest contributor to heritage and cultural undertakings in the UK, injecting more than £130 million annually. It administers and endorses a collection of world-renowned cultural and heritage institutions that serve the public good. Notable establishments encompass the Barbican Centre, Tower Bridge, Guildhall School of Music & Drama, Guildhall Art Gallery, and London Metropolitan Archives.
Empowering the capital’s youth through its Family of Schools, career festivals, and skills programs, the City Corporation strives to elevate social mobility. Its purview encompasses administering some of the nation’s finest public services, safeguarding 11,000 acres of green spaces such as Epping Forest and Hampstead Heath. Additionally, it manages social housing, wholesale markets, and holds the distinction of being the largest London Port Health Authority based on geographical expanse in the UK.
Guided by its Police Authority Board, the City Corporation actively upholds the Square Mile’s status as the world’s safest business district. This oversight involves supporting and scrutinizing the efforts of the City of London Police, which serves as the National Lead Force for fraud and economic crime. Notably, the organization takes ownership of the Central Criminal Court (Old Bailey), hosting some of England and Wales’ most high-profile criminal trials.
As the singular trustee of Bridge House Estates, responsible for maintaining five iconic London bridges, the City Corporation dedicates over £30 million yearly to charitable initiatives aimed at addressing disparities through City Bridge Trust. An additional £200 million has been pledged over five years, commencing from 2021 to 2026, to bolster London’s charitable sector. The City Corporation lends its backing to the City’s Livery Companies, whose contributions to trade, skill development, and education equate to an annual charitable contribution surpassing £75 million.
