City of London Corporation to host Net Zero Delivery Summit in 2024
Today, the City of London Corporation declared its plans to hold the Net Zero Delivery Summit at Mansion House in London next year, with a live stream available for a worldwide audience. This important event, scheduled for June 2024, represents a midpoint between COP28 in the United Arab Emirates and COP29. Its agenda includes discussions on mobilizing private sector finance for climate change mitigation and adaptation globally, the finance of nature, enhancing ESG disclosures to facilitate capital flow and transparency, and expanding a reliable voluntary carbon market.
This Summit builds upon a previous summit organized by the City Corporation, in collaboration with the Egyptian COP27 presidency. That event saw participation from notable figures like Andrew Bailey, Governor of the Bank of England, and Mia Mottley, Prime Minister of Barbados, and focused on uniting global leaders from finance, business, government, and various institutions.
The announcement was made by Chris Hayward, Policy Chairman of the City Corporation, and the Lord Mayor of London, Professor Michael Mainelli, at COP28.
Professor Mainelli emphasized the urgency of mobilizing private finance for a just global transition to net zero, highlighting the escalating climate crises like wildfires, floods, and increasing temperatures, especially in the Gulf region.
Chris Hayward stressed the indispensable role of private capital in achieving net zero. He noted London’s leading position in sustainable finance and expressed that the Summit will be a platform to showcase effective global strategies in sustainable finance, focusing on areas like transition and nature finance, and the voluntary carbon market.
